MOHA Christmas Party

The Govalle Cultural District is a vibrant, artist-driven cultural district in East Austin designated by the City of Austin in June 2025. Anchored by a rich ecosystem of creative spaces, community organizations, and youth programming, the district celebrates local heritage, supports cultural sustainability, and fosters belonging for all.

Located in one of East Austin’s most historical neighborhoods, the Govalle Cultural District was formally designated in 2025 to preserve and expand the area’s rich cultural identity. Home to The Museum of Human Achievement, Canopy, 979 Springdale, Govalle Elementary, Bike Texas and more, the district is a creative hub where artists, educators, nonprofits, and neighbors work together to foster an inclusive, affordable, and thriving community. Through public art, youth programming, residencies, artist studios, festivals, and storytelling projects, the district uplifts the legacy of Govalle’s diverse communities and supports artful lives, creative careers, civic engagement, and cultural belonging.

Visit

The Govalle Cultural District offers year-round programming in galleries, public art spaces, and performance venues. One way to experience it is during First Saturdays, when artists at Canopy and MoHA open their studios from 1–4pm, alongside exhibitions at Ivester Contemporary and ICOSA Gallery. Grab a yuzu lemonade at Sa-Tén and enjoy work in progress, gallery shows, and the creative energy of East Austin.
